Battle of the Gels: Eco Styler Black Castor & Flaxseed Oil Gel vs. Murray’s Gel Loc-Lock

Ladies and gentlemen!

Welcome to the product review that you have been waiting for!

As you know, I absolutely loathe gel due to experiencing hardness and just it being too much for my hair. I have discussed alternative products that I’ve used insead of gel on Instagram (@HeyIvyE_). But I decided it was time for me to get over my irrational and dislike for gel.

After doing some research on gels for my hair type I decided to settle on Murray’s Gel Loc-Lock and Eco Styler Black Castor and Flaxseed Oil Gel.

Let’s it’s POPPIN!

Murray’s Gel Loc-Lock

This product was something that I thought would honestly work for me. I already use Murray’s Beeswax, which I adore from the bottom of my heart,so I had high expectations for this product.

The price of the product was a reasonable $5 for an 8 oz jar. I liked the brand and the price so I decided to give it a shot! When I opened the jar, I noticed the sweet smell and how the product almost had a “hair cream” look to it.

I’ll admit, I was feeling hyped at this point.

So I tested out this gel with a puff and then with cornrows. Both of these styles held up very well. Also, when it came to applying the product I found that I didn’t need much and it didn’t dry my hair out.

But I really don’t like this product.

I noticed that it gave my hair a sticky feeling and at first I thought it was because my hair wasn’t in braids. But I got the same sticky feeling when I took my braids out after having them in for two weeks. I had such high hopes but this did bring me to its competitor!

Eco Styler Black Castor and Flaxseed Oil Gel

The last time I used ANY type of Eco Styler was back in 2014. I hated this brand with a PASSION! It made my hair feel crunchy and hard when all I wanted was a decent hold! I remember having to use grease underneath it because an oil wasn’t doing a great job a preventing the crunchiness. It completely turned me off from using any type of gel!

Until now!

I’ve researched online about this product and what I found were more wash-n-go’s than using it as a hold for a braid out, twist out, or puff. Luckily, I stumbled upon Naturally Temi’s review which was enough for me to purchase this product.

I went to my local Beauty Supply Store and purchased an 8 oz for $2! Given that my goal was to get a small jar, I didn’t realize how much cheaper this jar was than Murray’s!

The scent of the gel was a bit too much for me. It has a fragrance that isn’t appealing to me but once you apply it to you hair it’s gone. And of course it had that Eco Styler gel appearance that I hated so much.

But when I say this is the ONLY gel I’ve ever liked in my life!

THIS IS THE ONLY GEL I’VE EVER LIKED IN MY LIIIIIFFFFEEEE!

It gave my hair hold without making it feel weird or crunchy! My braid out was soft and fluffy as if I didn’t use gel at all. And my puff was laid down just how I like it!

Final Score

Murray’s:⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Eco Styler:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 WINNER!

I would definitely recommend Eco Styler Black Castor and Flaxseed Oil Gel for those who are looking for a nice simple hold with no struggle. Also, I only used this product to lay down my hair for certain hairstyles, my puff, and my braid out. When you look up this product you will see that the majority of reviews are for wash-n-go’s.

Please be specific in your research!

As y’all know everyone loves this black girl-next-door!

Come check me out next week for new posts!
